Manuscripts, artifacts, archaeological sites, and historical objects face risks of degradation, forgery, looting, and illicit trafficking. The LAEC, through its Cultural Heritage Valorization Program, applies advanced methods to study, preserve, and protect this heritage while contributing to its promotion and recognition at national and international levels. Nuclear and related analytical techniques, such as radiocarbon dating, optical stimulated luminescence dating, &nbsp;stable isotope analysis, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Raman and infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry (GC-MS, LC-MS, ToF-SIMS), accelerator based techniques (Ion Beam Analysis-IBA) and other high-resolution methods are employed to determine ages, provenance, assess authenticity, monitor conservation status, and support restoration strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current research activities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dating and provenance studies<\/strong>: establishing the origin and chronology of manuscripts, textiles, and archaeological samples.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Material characterization<\/strong>: identifying pigments, inks, metals, ceramics, and organic residues to guide conservation and restoration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Detection of forgeries and illicit trafficking<\/strong>: providing scientific evidence to cultural authorities, museums, and law enforcement agencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By combining interdisciplinary expertise with cutting-edge technologies, LAEC cooperates with national stakeholders \u2014 including ministries, the Directorate General of Antiquities, museums, and academic institutions to foster the study and preservation of cultural heritage.
